Where do you get your calcium?

When most people think of calcium rich foods, they tend to think of dairy. And yes, dairy, especially cheese is high in calcium. However, there are an abundance of plant foods that are rich in calcium too.

What is calcium and why do we need it?

Calcium is the most abundant mineral found in the human body, 99% of which is stored in our bones and teeth, and its primary job is to keep them hard and strong. Calcium deficiency can lead to soft weak bones, and osteoporosis later in life.

Vitamin D enhances calcium absorption and is also essential for bone health (so make sure you’re getting enough sun), whereas sodium causes calcium loss, so keep your salt intake to the minimum.
